The City of Žilina
Žilina is the metropolis of north-western Slovakia. The fourth largest city of the Slovak Republic lies at the confluence of three rivers – Váh, Kysuca and Rajčianka. It is the seat of the Žilina self-governing region and the gateway to the territory called Upper Váh region. The city has a rich 800-year history. Several historical and cultural monuments can be found in the city. Car production (KIA Motors Slovakia) contributes significantly to the current dynamic development of the city. Together with the surrounding region, the city is a popular and important tourist destination in Slovakia. There are two theatres in Žilina, the Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Žilina are located here. Finally, the University of Žilinská has been located here since 1953.
